The Hawks made Tim Hardaway Jr. and Edy Tavares as inactive for the season opener. “Each night we have to make decisions and go with a group,” coach Mike Budenholzer said when asked about Hardaway. “The active, inactive will probably change night to night as it does with every team.” … Budenholzer said that the minutes for Kyle Korver and Thabo Sefolosha will be a progression this season. “What we are thinking is progressing them into the season,” he said. Korver said he would play “as many minutes as Bud will let me.” … The Hawks re-did the retired number banners of Bob Pettit, Lou Hudson and Dominque Wilkins to reflect the era in which they played. .,. Hawks principal owner Tony Ressler attended Tuesday’s season-opener.

From the Pistons

Former Hawks player Anthony Tolliver was inactive after he returned to Detroit to be with his wife for the birth of their second child. … Caldwell-Pope, from Georgia, started all 82 games for the Pistons last season and averaged career-highs in points (12.7), rebounds (3.1) and assists (1.3). Budenholzer and several players said containing Pistons center Andre Drummond will be an emphasis of the defensive game plan.
