HEAT 101, HAWKS 92

The Hawks dropped their first exhibition game of the preseason with a 101-92 loss to the Heat Sunday night at Philips Arena. The Hawks are now 4-1 with two exhibition games remaining.

The Hawks were done in by a 31-16 third quarter – after the Heat had pulled four of its starters to begin the third period.

Tiago Splitter and Dennis Schroder will sit as the Hawks rest some players to get others playing time. … Thabo Sefolosha will play as he continues comeback from broken right leg. … Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said he sees no issues with Sefolosha being ready for opening night as part of the rotation but would not commit to him being in the starting lineup.

From the Heat

The Heat will play several veterans, including Wade, despite playing in Houston last night. … Whiteside is being held out as a precaution after tweaking his ankle against the Rockets. … Coach Eric Spoelstra on the Hawks and the key to sustaining deep playoff runs: “They are doing a lot of things right. They don’t need me commenting about what they are doing right. They have a great system.”
