Game Thread: Teague-Schroder pairing presents problems

ORLANDO — As we have noted, the Hawks are using the two point guard pairing of Jeff Teague and Dennis Schroder with more frequency of late.

I asked Magic interim coach James Borrego, who worked for seven years on the same Spurs staff with Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer, the challenges of defending the duo.

“It’s a dynamic group to the rim, that’s for sure,” Borrego said. “They put a lot of pressure on the paint that way. Multiple ball-handlers. Multiple pick-and-rolls. When one of them is on the floor, they mainly play pick-and-roll with that one player. Now, when you have both on the floor, the ball can swing side to side and run multiple pick-and-rolls with that group. My guess is that is what Coach Bud is trying to do, create more ball movement, more pick-and-rolls on the backside. It’s been effective for them.

“It’s just like our group. We do the same with (Victor) Oladipo and (Elfrid) Payton. They play a lot of pick-and-roll. Having two ball-handlers like that is good for our group. That is going to be healthy for them as they go into the playoffs.”

Also:

* The Hawks will stay with their normal starting lineup.

* Mike Scott (sprained toe) and Austin Daye will be inactive.
