The Hawks ended the exhibition season in impressive fashion with a 117-107 victory over the Spurs Wednesday night in San Antonio.
The Hawks outscored the Spurs 36-23 in the second quarter and 42-26 in the third quarter en route to the victory. The Hawks led by as many as 23 points.
Jeff Teague led the Hawks with a game-high 21 points of 8 of 12 shooting. Kyle Korver finished with 18 points on six 3-pointers. The Hawks also got double-figure scoring from Mike Scott (19), Paul Millsap (15) and Al Horford (10). Scott was 8 of 8 from the field and Millsap added eight rebounds. John Jenkins was the only player not to see action.
In the Hawks’ 42-point third quarter, Millsap and Korver each had nine points, Teague had seven and DeMarre Carroll had six. In all, the Hawks shot 66.7 percent (12 of 18) from the field in the quarter.
“It was great,” Horford said the of third-quarter outburst. “The ball was really moving. More encouraging, we played really well defensively. The defense started a lot of it. It started pushing tempo. It all comes with time but that’s the type of pace we want to play at. We’ve got some work ahead of ourselves but we are getting there.”
The Spurs were led by Tony Parker with 17 points.
The Hawks (4-3) open the regular season next Wednesday at the Raptors.
